So I left home a week ago and will be gone for 9 months. The start of a new season. It’s been the most uncomfortable situation I’ve ever been in. It’s nothing like home. Unexpectedly changing. Also very fruitful. Super challenging. Breaking and molding and growing has begun. It’s new and it’s beautiful.
Im at a loss of words thinking about this first week on the race. We are in Georgia for training for the next couple of weeks, then off to Louisiana for a 2 week domestic mission, then back to Georgia for debrief, then off to Guatemala!! Georgia for 5 weeks was not expected. Honestly I was disappointed when I found out just how long we would be here for, but I have to trust that the Lord has us in this position for a purpose. Even though I can’t see it yet. Through the awful smell of the porta potties, the lukewarm coffee, and the bug infested tents, I know the Lord is breaking me, because I’ve grown out of my old shell. It’s a process. A long, uncomfy process. Following Jesus was never promised to be comfortable though. I challenge you with that: get uncomfortable with Jesus. Lock eyes with Him. read 15 minutes past what you WANT to read. Sit and listen, even if the stillness is hard. He wants time with you. He wants to know you. You have the keys of the kingdom in your hand, so run with them. Be with Jesus. He desires to be with you, you are his daughter/son!!!
A lot of friends wrote me letters to open “on Christmas” or “on your bday”, so the first night I got here I had a couple of “first night” letters. One of them was from a super old, sister of a friend, Taylor. She’s a freshman in highschool this year and really found the Lord this summer and began serving his people throughout her school just this year. It’s been really cool to be able to have real in depth conversations with her since shes began digging deep into her Bible and praying to the Lord. She is wise beyond her years and she’s only at the start. She wrote me a letter and in it she said to read Hebrews 11. I’ve read Hebrews multiple times, so i didn’t think anything of it. The next morning we had devo and i purposefully did not want to bring a devotional book to training. I trusted the Lord would provide whatever scripture needed in that days time and it was going to be intentionally issued by the Lord. Long story short, Hebrews 11 from that letter from Tay stuck in my head, so, I opened my Bible and started reading. Hebrews 11 is about the Heroes of Faith in the Bible. It talks about Rahab & Abraham & a lot of other “characters” from the Bible. It got to a section about Moses and how he refused to be known as the son of the Pharaoh’s daughter. AND JUST LISTEN TO THIS NEXT VERSE!! It says “and he chose to suffer with the people of God rather than to enjoy the short-lived pleasure of sin.” LIKE WHAT!! An eye opener. Even the son of the Pharaoh’s daughter chose not to be associated with that, but Gods people, no matter what that looked like. Kind of reminded me of Jesus too. He came down from the Kingdom. THE Heavenly realms. To show us how to live. No matter what it looked like. They took the keys and ran with them (thank you to my team leader Layna for the key concept haha).
If you are confiding in the Lord, you have all you need in this season. So get uncomfortable. Ask the Lord to use you. Ask the Lord for motivation. For wisdom. For signs. For miracles. For stillness. For peace. For restoration. All the things. He wants to be in this season, so let Him be. He loves you beyond what you could imagine. Don’t resist the biggest and kindest love you could ever recieve.
